Only two countries in the world who use purple colour in their national flag. The one country is Nicaragua which contains purple colour in its flag represents liberty. And the other country is Dominica having purple colour on the feathers of Sisserou parrot on its national flag which represents the royalty.
There have been number of theories as to why purple colours is not common on most flags.
At that time purple dye was considered too expensive than the gold and it was so rear and most of the countries could not afford this colour as the process of producing purple dye involved extracting slimy mucus from thousands of sea snail.And the process was time consuming and labour intensive and thousands of snails would produce only gram of the purple dye.
